About the Oceania Project

The Oceania Project is a Not-For-Profit research and education organisation established by Trish & Wally Franklin in 1988 to raise awareness about Cetacea (Whales and Dolphins) and the Oceans through research, expeditions and educational activities.

About the Research Program

Long term Photo-identification survey of the Humpback Whales in Hervey Bay conducted under a Queensland Environment Protection Agency scientific permit. Photo-identifcation collaboration with Southern Cross University Researchers Dan Burns and David Paton.

Information obtained from these research programs add to the body of knowledge about humpback whales and also directly contribute to the Cetacean Management and Monitoring Program within the Hervey Bay Marine Park.

The Research Programs are funded by the Interns who participate in the Annual Whale Research Expeditions; Sale of iWhales™ Movies and other content on iWhales.org.

Additional funding support has been provided by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW); Queensland Environmental Protection Agency; Southern Cross University Whale Research Centre; Hervey Bay Whale Watch Fleet, ICERC Japan; Hervey Bay City Council and special thanks to Mark Cornish for his generous participation and financial support.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you participate for multiple weeks, accommodation & food aboard 'Moon Dancer' between trips is included. Cabins have double beds and accommodation is on a shared basis. Swags are available for sleeping out on the foredeck or at other sleeping locations on the vessel.
